A customer in CA had another company do their initial fire and smoke damper inspection. Unfortunately, the other company went out of business and the customer needed repairs ASAP. We provided the customer with repairs quickly and were able to get the facility up to code. This has happened with at least four other hospitals in Kentucky as of recently as well.
A customer in TX had another company do their inspection and provided them with a generic excel report. However, AHJ didn’t like the report and now the company needed repairs as well as a new report. We repaired what needed to be repaired and also provided the customer with a report that AHJ would approve of.
A Hospital in NV had another vendor perform a damper inspection. However, that vendor only visually inspected their electric smoke and combination dampers (a big no-no by code requirements). The Joint Commission rejected that report leaving the customer needing a new inspection and report – after they had already paid their invoice! We redid the inspection per code and got the client back into compliance by performing the damper inspections the right way.
The bottom line is that your job is tough and you have a lot on your plate. The last thing you need is to spend your precious resources only to find out that the company you worked with didn’t do the job you paid them to do. Be sure to put your contractors through the ringer BEFORE you hire them to make sure they are the best people for the job.
